Sheridan Russell Gallery

Simon M Smith was born in Burnley, in 1957, and studied Fine Art at Manchester Polytechnic, Reading University, and the Slade School of Fine Art.  He currently lives and works in Norfolk.

His work has been included in numerous prestigious exhibitions, including the Royal Academy summer show, the Ing Discerning Eye, Newlight (currently touring), the Society of Botanical Artists, the Affordable Art Fair, the Other Art Fair, the Eastern Open etc, and is held in collections throughout the UK, the USA, Canada, Germany, and Taiwan.

"I work in a state of flow, without expectation, where actively ‘not-knowing’ leads to invention, discovery and revelation.  The work I make changes from day to day, and the fact that I don’t know where I’m going or what I’m doing next is hugely liberating and motivating.  I go into my studio every day. I pay attention.  I do whatever needs doing.  The work becomes what it wishes to be.”
